RECENT PROJECTS/ COMMISSIONS

We have been really busy at the studio this spring and early summer. Thanks to my apprentice Connie English for all her assistance! True Mosaics also welcomes Studio Assistant Nicole Bertoline.

We installed a beautiful kitchen backsplash in a private residence in Pleasanton, CA in May and June. This was all done in Italian marble in a traditional setting style. We also busted out a new floor mosaic at Gregangelo's Velocity Circus Museum, done in shiny black river stones in a Japanese style bathroom.

The 30 giant mosaic planters we did back in December are finally popping up all along International Blvd. In Oakland between Fruitvale and High St's. This area is getting a real facelift and there are other great mosaics to see along International Blvd.

UPCOMMING PROJECTS

We had a very successful community meeting concerning the installation of a series of three sun sculptures that I will be doing for the streetscape on Ocean Ave. in the southern part of SF. The designs have been approved and we will be ready for fabrication in the fall! Watch for final install around February.

If you want to see something terrific, check out Reverend G's awesome collage installation on the gymnasium walls at Ingleside Presbyterian Church at the corner of Grenada and Ocean. He has been working on this 3000+ sq. ft. collage since 1978!

We are working on designs for an inset compass rose medallion for a wacky private residence in SF. This will become part of a glass lagoon installation in the pavement outdoors.

Also this fall will be the installation of a series of 15 murals at St. Boniface Church in the Tenderloin in SF. This will be a cool mural series using antique Malibu tile salvaged from fire.

More crazy mosaic madness at Velocity Circus Museum this winter with a mosaic UFO landing pad on the roof and possibly more interior glass mosaics in the bathroom.

MOSAIC PROJECTS IN GHANA THIS SUMMER

I will be hosting two American mosaic artists for a workshop in the community mosaic process. We will work with local youth and adults in Nungua Ghana to create a mosaic mural from ceramic tile, mirror, stones and shells at Aba House Cultural Center in partnership with Cross Cultural Collaborative Inc.

Then we will embark on a mosaic tour of Accra, the capitol of Ghana and go out into the rest of the country to visit different crafts villages. After this 17 day workshop and tour, I will return to Aba House Cultural Center in Nungua and continue to work with community members to design and create a sculptural mosaic bench and a small series of concrete relief and mosaic murals.

I also hope to do a shot residency at a glass bead workshop to make kiln fired glass tesserae from recycled bottles.

I am also hoping to relax a little and get into being on "Ghana time". No "multi -tasking in Ghana!"

Please come to the slide lecture and video presentation in October where I will be lecturing on the Community Mosaic Mural Making process and showing visuals of our projects in Ghana! (October 1st Friday evening, more info at www.Truemosaics.com/ classes/ events.

UPCOMMING EXHIBITIONS

Please watch for a new mosaic at Coma, a new bar opening in the Mission on 16th and Guerrero. Fellow mosaic artist and good friend Santiago Rodriguez will wow and amaze with his new establishment….

November exhibition at the Throckmorton Theater and Gallery in Mill Valley.

This will be my first solo exhibition in a very long time and I am excited. More info will be posted on the website.
Also watch for dates for an OPEN HOUSE at Gregangelo's Velocity Circus Museum in the fall. For all of you who have been dying to get in there for a look at this unique and marvelous environment, this will be a great time to do it! Date and time TBA.

September 25th and 26th is the Italian Marble Mosaic Festival at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. I have been invited to exhibit as a master mosaic artist with many other talented mosaicists. This will be an outdoor event and very cool I am sure.
