I chose to use my heart/eye theme for this heart and made fused and slumped dichroic glass eyes for the centers of the iridescent red glass hearts. The large swirls are made from cut mirror strips and the heart is covered with tesserae made from cut stained glass. The heart took me about two weeks to make in the studio. Thanks to my apprentice Connie English with help grouting... we used pink grout with a gold metal flake additive to give it a little more glitter.

From the Hearts in S.F. web site:
"Hearts in San Francisco is a Bay Area-wide "heart installation" debuting in the spring of 2004. While similar to Chicago's "Cows on Parade," the San Francisco version will use a heart icon, appropriate for a city that is recognized for its acceptance and tolerance, as well as being perennially open-hearted.
130 recognized and emerging artists will transform heart sculptures into unique works of art. These hearts will be installed on sidewalks, plazas, parks, and street corners throughout the San Francisco Bay Area"
